When entering the text in the Personal Text field and writing a normal sentence with spaces this is the max string that can be entered:

abc def ghi jkl mno pqr stu vwx yz abc def ghi jkl

When entering the text in a continuous fashion, no spaces, this is the string that can be entered:

abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwx

The first string will wrap to the nex line no problem.   The second string cause an overflow and produces the slider bar.

At least the layout is not completely broken!

I suppose it should go split on multiple lines?

Strange, I just tried this and the long string of text wrapped as expected ... what browser and version are you using?  I did a quick look in Fx, Chrome and IE and it looked fine?

In display worked fine for me as well, in profile though it doesn't.
